Full-stack product engineering

Web apps with a UI/UX and data-model focus.

Web apps · UI/UX · data models

I thrive in ambiguity. I've worked at companies from one person to hundreds of thousands, at every stage from napkin sketch to hardened deployment at scale, and have worn many hats: engineer, CTO, team lead, product manager. I work fast and iteratively, focused on results.

Hire me to:

0 → 1turn your idea into a well-engineered, fully-deployed reality.
OUTSTANDING PROBLEManalyze an existing system and make deep structural improvements.
LEADERSHIPhelp your team optimize their use of AI technologies and develop stronger technical culture.
UI/UXevolve your web or mobile interface into something brilliant and bug-free.

Modeling complex domains, with your team

Every product team faces the same hard problem: a precise, flexible model of its domain. My work has centered on one question: how should we model complex domains? It takes several forms:

TECHNICALHow to build the data model?
ONTOLOGICALWhat is the data model?
TEAMHow does the team think about the data model?

If that's the work in front of you, let's talk.

Practices, culture & AI adoption

At Google I led teams up to 12 engineers and worked across organizations of hundreds, not as a manager but as a technical lead setting the practices, culture, and architecture that let my teammates move fast.

I can help evolve your team or organization:

AGENTIC ENGINEERINGBring discipline and best practices to your team: I have worked at the edge of agentic engineering for over a year.
BEST PRACTICESClear your technical debt backlog with quantitative methods from developer-productivity research.
CULTUREI grew an ~800-member employee community at Google and won multiple awards for it. Let's make your culture healthy and productive.

02 · ABOUT

As a staff-level IC engineer, CTO, founder, and technical lead, I have spent two decades focused on one question: how should we model complex domains? For nine years on Google's Knowledge Graph team I built the systems thousands of people use to operate a graph publicly estimated at over 1.6 trillion facts.

Before that I led the UI team at Addepar, where I co-invented two U.S. patents on generating interactive reports and tables from graph-structured data. I've been CTO of two startups, hired and led distributed teams, and shipped at every stage from napkin sketch to hardened deployment. I hold an MIT B.S. in Mathematics with Computer Science.

In my off hours, I live on and work to restore 100 acres of canyon land in Castro Valley, I play go and chess, and I jam on flute and guitar.
